Differences and contrast between the surface and the interior of experience.

Instrumentation: All either sampled, or physical modeling instruments: Pianos, two played normally, one plucked, and one bowed, miscelleneous Balinese Gamelan instruments, bowed gamelan instruments, and glass armonica, ben franklin's invention.

Tuning: Paul Erlich's 12 note hexachordal scale from 22 tET. This scale has a interval pattern of 2, 2, 2, 2,1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1. Like the diatonic scale for 12 tET, this scale contains every interval in 22 tET. Also like the diatonic scale, every mode has a unique arrangement of intervals.

Performer: Max 8, a 16 voice patch of my design.

Composition Technique: a combination of serial and gamelan methods. The work employs sixteen 12-tone rows, each of which is obtained from the previous by combinatorial methods. The forms, especially of part 2, Interior, are circular, as in gamelan music.

Thoughts: quiet within turbulence, turbulence within quiet.
