about

This is a live recording of a concert that Jonathan Sielaff and I gave at the Contemporary Crafts Museum and Gallery (CCMG) in Portland, Oregon, in January 2004, on a very rainy and windy night.
When I first listened to the recording, I thought it was unreleasable, because the sound of the rain on CCMG's picture windows and skylight was almost as loud as the music. But this year (2020) I decided to attempt to rescue it with Izotope's RX4 Advanced, a program that has, among other tools, a very advanced denoiser. I found that the recording could be repaired, and here it is.

I want to thank Randall Havas for the use of several very fine shakuhachi on this concert.
