This album consists of three closely related pieces that were composed simultaneously in the process of working on what I originally thought was one work. Here you are presented with two versions of Polyphony for 12 (Instruments), as if you were taken on two different helicopter flights over the same landscape.....You are also presented with the Trio for Piano, Vibes, and Hand Pan, a work extracted from Polyphony for 12.
The differences between the two versions of Polyphony for 12 seem small enough on a technical level yet result in very different works. Changes in tuning strategy, tempo maps, and instrumentation yield one work that seems dreamlike, and atmospheric, and another that has a vocal and contrapuntal, ever evolving nature.
The Trio, though extracted from Polyphony for 12, has its own nature, just as closeup photos of landscapes first viewed from afar do.
