This work was created with a computer. A program that I designed in 2012, the TreeSpirit v1.2, a Max patch, was used to generate the pitches and rhythms. The 6 midi note-streams that the patch produced was used to drive 2 instantiations of Pianoteq, a physical-modeling program that emulates acoustic keyboards, and the resulting keyboard sounds were then processed with a granular synthesis time-stretching program which transformed them into sounds more resembling voices, strings, and winds. This was then processed with Izotope's Ozone 5 for polishing.

River of Longing is composed in 22 EDO. The full gamut of 22 tones per octave is used throughout, but a decatonic (10 note) scale is the basis for harmonic and melodic motion in the work.
