This short work, written for Toyoji Tomita, a great experimental trombonist, calls on the player to create multiphonic chords by singing and playing two different pitches at the same time.

The title refers to a sentence from Dylan Thomas's Author's Prologue to his Collected Works:

To you strangers (though song
Is a burning and crested act,
The fire of birds in
The world's turning wood,
For my sawn, splay sounds),
Out of these seathumbed leaves
That will fly and fall
Like leaves of trees and as soon
Crumble and undie
Into the dogdayed night.
