about

Three Times Two, a Double Trio for Shakuhachi and Computer. Three shakuhachi, a bass, baritone and tenor instrument, none of which have standard tuning - provide the acoustic source material in the form of three independent but related lines. These lines are doubled, in one case a fifth below, in another a fourth above, and the last, a minor seventh below, the original pitch levels. Some of the lines are fed into granular synthesis based time-stretching plugins to create variations in timbre and texture that play off of the similarities between the shakuhachi sound and the sound of the human voice.
